Apple is reportedly developing the second generation iPhone Air which could feature two rear cameras instead of one according to a Chinese leaker with ties to Apple supply chain.
The leak shared by the Weibo based account Digital Chat Station, claims Apple is testing a dual-camera setup for its next ultra thin iPhone. The new configuration would pair a 48MP Fusion Ultra Wide lens with the existing 48MP Fusion Main camera, A setup similar to what is expected on the standard iPhone 17.

Interestingly, Apple is said to be keeping the air signature horizontal camera plateau, meaning the second lens will likely sit beside the first rather than adopting the vertical layout seen on the iPhone 17.
Because the iPhone Air plateau houses multiple internal components to maximize battery space apple may need to significantly rework the internal design to fit the second camera. Despite this, the company reportedly remains focused on keeping the device as slim and lightweight as possible.
According to industry analyst Ming Chi, Apple plans to launch the second generation iPhone Air alongside the iPhone 18 Pro, iPhone 18 Pro Max and its first foldable iPhone in the second half of 2026. A third iPhone Air model with a larger display is also said to be in development for release in late 2027. However poor sales of the first generation iPhone Air outside China could influence Apple roadmap.
Digital Chat Station has a solid track record when it comes to Apple leaks. They previously revealed that the iPhone 15 and 15 Plus would use a slightly smaller 48MP sensor compared to the Pro models and correctly described the iPhone 12 display design years ago.
The upcoming model and potentially named either iPhone Air 2 or iPhone 18 Air is expected to retain the same display and design philosophy as the current version emphasizing an ultra thin minimal aesthetic.
Apple will need to deliver meaningful improvements to keep the Air line alive. Early sales reports show the iPhone Air is the weakest performer in Apple lineup much like Samsung Galaxy S25 Edge and another lackluster release could jeopardize the future of Apple thinnest iPhone yet.
